Lean is a concept or way of thinking that focuses on eliminating waste and streamlining processes to save time, space, materials, and money. The “lean concept” originated in Venice in the 1450s and was famously used by car manufacturers in the 1900s. The company Toyota “leaned” their process and invested the saved time and money to improve their engine design. Ford also used the lean concept to reduce their production costs and provide more affordable cars to the masses. Today, the lean concept is vastly used in manufacturing, IT, accounting, sales, marketing, HR, and operations. Lean Architect recognized a similar need for efficiency in architectural processes; the traditional process of documentation is filled with waste that can be eliminated through technology that is available today. We combined the idea of the lean concept, the needs of the field, and technology to innovate methods that save time and money, which can then be used to produce sustainable, data-driven design solutions. We are Lean Architects.
